Thatcher Mansion; Pueblo, CO

The Thatcher mansion, designed by noted Victorian architect Henry Hudson Holly of New York, was built at a cost of $60,750.00 when it was completed in 1893. The 24,000 sq. ft. home is constructed in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, of pink volcanic rhyolite stone.

John Thatcher lured by the excitement of the West, moved from Pennsylvania to Colorado. He began his adult life as a schoolteacher and later worked as a store clerk and a tannery employee and again as a clerk in Denver before opening his general store in Pueblo in 1863.

Pueblo, Colorado, is home to this mansion that is named Rosemount, after John Thatcher's wife's favorite flower.
