Diversified
Expertise for Varied Construction Needs
Schmidt’s Construction Division with its depth of
experience in site development, construction and project management has
also performed many less traditional paving and construction jobs.
The company built Colorado College’s new football field and track.
The field was built using a drainage layer aggregate base with a state
of the art synthetic-turf playing surface. The track was built with an
asphalt pavement base coupled with a high quality rubberized surface.
The field, which is the oldest football field west of the Mississippi
River, has been developed into one the best collegiate athletic facilities
in the country.
Schmidt also paved the racecourse at Pikes Peak International Raceway,
a particularly difficult job due to 10-degree turns and stringent specifications
for Indy car racing smoothness.
Schmidt used over 92,000 tons of asphalt in paving the racecourse, parking
lots and paddock area. The company also deployed Schmidt’s parent
company’s steel mill slag in the asphalt mix, resulting in one of
the fastest mile long racetracks in the world.
