Reclaimed Walker Pit

Environmental Stewardship is a Priority for Schmidt

Schmidt Aggregates is committed to the reclamation of areas used by the company, returning the lands to beneficial use as part of its stewardship responsibilities to the communities in which it operates.

Environmental awareness and stewardship are Schmidt priorities, not only in our mining operations but in all activities. We provide our employees with extensive training in environmental issues to maintain a safer and cleaner environment.

The Division’s mining operations reclaim aggregate sites that no longer contain valuable minerals. For instance, the company’s non-operational Castle Rock Quarry is in the process of being turned into a golf course and residential housing community.

Another non-operational site, Schmidt’s Walker Pit in Douglas County has been reclaimed by the company and is planned for use as a water reservoir to accommodate future growth in the area.
