Nationally Recognized Quality and Service
Schmidt Construction is continually recognized
as a national and regional leader in quality paving, project management
and asphalt plant operation. Some of Schmidt Construction’s
recent awards are:
National Asphalt Paving Association (NAPA); Quality in Construction
Award
- Interstate 25
The company won its award for the milling, crown correction, and overlay
of 4 miles of Interstate 25 south of Colorado Springs. The project
was a three-year warranty project with the asphalt mix selected by
the contractor, which included 15 percent recycled asphalt product
(RAP). Schmidt used innovative techniques for longitudinal joints
and a laser profiler to measure the smoothness of the road. The finished
project was a high quality, smooth-riding road.
National Asphalt Paving Association (NAPA); Quality in Construction
Award
- U.
S. Highway 24
The company won its award for the resurfacing of a section of U. S.
Highway 24 from Manitou Springs to Woodland Park using a windrow elevator
to improve smoothness. The paving job was complicated by several factors,
including vertical rock walls adjacent to the paving lanes, tight
turns with steep super-elevations, and short sight distances for traffic.
The company also had to remove and replace 35,000 feet of guardrail.
Despite the difficulties, Schmidt Construction delivered an attractive
and high-performance asphalt roadway.
National Asphalt Paving Association (NAPA);
Excellence in Hot Mix Asphalt Plant / Site Operations (1999 through
2003 )
Diamond Achievement Award
The company continues to be awarded
annually the coveted Diamond Achievement Commendation for Excellence
in hot mix plant / site operations. Both Schmidt asphalt plants have
won this award since applying for it. The commendations are based
upon an assessment of the plant site: environmental practices, appearance,
operations, safety, permitting and compliance, and community relations.
Nominations are verified by members of the local community and evaluated
by a nationally known independent assessment firm.
Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT);
Project Management Award
The company won its award for a six (6) month major
renovation project on U. S. Highway 24. Per CDOT, “Not only
did Colorado Motorists get a very smooth and durable riding surface,
they got the best performance we’ve seen on the delivery of
a resurfacing project of this magnitude.”
Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA); Smoothest Paving
Crew Award
- U. S. Highway 24
The company won its “Best in Colorado Asphalt
Pavement Award” for smoothest paving crew for work performed
on U. S. Highway 24 from Calhan to Ramah.
